AK47 was laid to rest Thursday afternoon at 4.00pm, as is the norm in Buganda culture when one is a 'Ssalango' Mourners thronged the burial grounds in their droves; however, the heartbreaking moment came when Davis Kafeero, who was singing at the funeral, asked the AK47's children and all Mzee Mayanja's grandchildren present to touch the casket before the singer was taken to his final resting place. In a very touching and moving moment the grieving widow, Maggie Kiweesi, carried her twin babies and made them touch the coffin in a gesture of farewell to their father.
It was a very emotional moment their uncle Pius Mayanja aka Pallaso broke down and reached across the casket to hug Maggie, and together they cried as they comforted each other.
Pallaso, who was closest to AK47, while speaking on behalf of the late singer's friends, pledged to support his brother's young family.
"You can count on us," he said. "I will always be there for you."
